Hi, As discussed in the latest meeting the default application selection in openSUSE/KDE is far from perfect. It's not a simple problem, but the first step to fix it is to define which apps should be the default apps for each filetype. I created a first draft at http://wiki.opensuse.org/Portal:KDE/Default_applications. I would like people to comment and to add new "Alternatives" and filetypes to the list. At http://wiki.opensuse.org/Portal:KDE/Default_applications/11.3_RC1 there is the list of all the registered MIME types in a new KDE installation on openSUSE 11.3 RC1 with its preference order for applications. There are two kind of problems that need to be fixed: - Some apps support some formats but that isn't reflected in its .desktop files (e.g. Amarok and AC3). Those need to be added to its "MimeType" entry. - Some apps are the default app just because of luck (Kaffeine). A high enough "InitialPreference" entry should be added in its .desktop files to ensure they continue being the default application if the user installs a new application that can handle the same MIME type. Notice that this doesn't means that "new apps became the default app", without "InitialPreference" the behavior is basically random. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
