I don't know the "real" apt from debian, only the (wonderful) apt-rpm wrapper for suse. There I have to run apt update to get the actual file lists. I cannot imagine how that should work without update command on debian, though... Perhaps an apt upgrade does imply an apt update. But if offline or on slow modem line, perhaps I do not want this, so I am happy to be able to choose when to update my file lists. Best, Daniel Am Dienstag, 31. Mai 2005 22:28 schrieb Black, Alain:
I haven't used apt on SuSE yet, only on Debian, so this question might just be for my own edification, do you still have to run "apt-get update" to retrieve an updated list of packages?

Thanks for the info. I don't see them yet at
ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/9.1-i386/RPMS.kde/
I guess I will wait for the mirroring to happen.
Heu, they must be there. That freshrpms page is made from the
contents of
the directories...
Strange. I can see them all, but apt update doesn't get file lists which
contains these files. I have (beside others) the repositories: suser-rbos kde kde-unstable
