I'm guessing this is probably something to do with the fact that the imapd in 8.2 is now using imaps.
Unfortunately, though I know this, I still have yet to work out how to correctly configure the secure options to allow connections from outlook, or even a local copy of k-mail.
If/When I work this out, I'll let you know
If anyone else has more ideas or pointers on this I would be quite happy to hear them.

hello
I need of mail server under Suse 8.2. I tried to use imapd, under xinetd, and runs fine, but when try to login with windows outlook client, existing user on linux is not recognised as valid logon for imap account. I haven't set up any users for imap. Do I have to?

hello I managed to get the right answer in suse-linux-e@suse.com mailing list. I did a search on 'imap' and got the answer in the first thread found :). It is described here (http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2003-May/0283.html), and link provided there, has even more detailed information. I connected to imap server with outlook client successfuly , after setting it to use the imap with ssl. regards, himba
