Hi, Could someone give me a short explanation why openSUSE uses modified KDE_VERSION_STRING like "4.10.2 release 1" ? I assume there must be valid points behind that decision, but I just don't know yet :) I'm asking because this modified KDE_VERSION_STRING causes some annoyance in bugs.kde.org to a few KDE applications(konqueror, kwin, gwenview, plasma-desktop, etc ) using KDE_VERSION_STRING as their version strings : 1). crash reports created by Dr.Konqi do not have the "Version" field correctly filled, because the version string in bugs.kde.org is like "4.10.5" while the version string in openSUSE installation is like "4.10.5 release 1". All such reports have the useless "unspecified" value in the "Version" field. That introduces information loss, and extra time is wasted for developers/triagers to fill the "Version" field manually. 2). Due to the version string mismatching, bugs.kde.org also fails to reject crash reports from outdated KDE installation (like KDE SC 4.7.x) as it should have done. I guess I could add some hack in Dr.Konqi to work around this problem, but I don't think that is the right solution. Maybe we can figure out a proper solution to make both sides happy, so here comes this mail .
