If you want that sort of Linux system i.e. Click and run, you'll need to go and purchase Linspire(Lindows). Linux out of the box plays a lot more things than most other OS's. On Saturday 11 Sep 2004 11:31, Volker Kuhlmann wrote:
Your incorrect to presume linux is a loser. They just obey the law regarding non GNU lisence programs.
You completely missed the point. Yes "they"'re obeying the law, but that's not the point.
The makers of these products have made some available for us but the user must modify their own system.
*That*'s the problem. By far most computer users are not capable of compiling anything, nor should they have to. If you want to persuade unsavvy (i.e. average) users to switch to Linux, you'll have to give them a system that's better. "Good" is defined as inserting the CD which came with the dvdrom drive and clicking the mouse about 5 times. Alternatively, starting yast will do, but it's not working.
Linux out of the box doesn't play a hell of a lot of things which makes it a loser in this area. I'm not interested in why, nor is my gf, my mother, or anyone else I'm trying to persuade to switch to Linux.
