If this is the same problem that KDE exhibited with 3.2, it is kdemultimedia3-mixer bugs.
I run the latest KDE available via YOU on 9.1, which calls itself 3.2.1. The default mixer was kamix from SuSE special. This kamix is the most diabolical mixer I've ever seen, as it misses over 95% of my soundcard. To be precise, only the master volume was there. Had to install kdemultimedia3-mixer (not a default) and use kmix as before, works just fine, controls all of my soundcard's hardware. All levels are restored after boot.
