I tried to upgrade a P4HT 64 bit 12.1/4.9.5 installation to 12.2/4.10.5[1] using zypper, but every session start segfaults in kdeinit4 without ever painting any kind of panel or app starter.
i am assuming you did this part correctly, but need to ask: did you switched completely to the KR410 repo? Most importantly due to underlying libraries built in KR410, and not in 12.2 (or just newer versions there, i'm looking at Qt mostly)
I don't know how it could have been incomplete. I checked for instances of 4.8.*, but what more I did specifically on that issue I can't remember any more. I eventually gave up on the upgrade process and did a fresh 12.2/KDE4 install, then tried to upgrade it to 4.10.5. I eventually got tired of the never-ending zypper conflict resolution questions and ripped all of KDE4 out. I then tried installing, Trinity, which failed to even start installing due to dependence on a non-existent Hal. KDE3 is now running on that box and I'm done trying to do any more with it, having spent nearly every waking hour since 24 hours ago tending or waiting on it. My other 12.2 systems, whether 4.8.x, 4.9.x, 4.10.x or KDE3 were working OK at least as of their last boots. If if wasn't for ancient bugs that never get fixed and newer bugs I can't avoid[1], I wouldn't be messing with 12.2 (or likely KDE3), but it's the last OS release (AFAICT) not fatally handicapped by https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39949 filed over 27 months ago.
