After a year with SuSE 7.2 Pro, I have just SuSE 8.1 Pro. I have one issue with the new install.
When I start kfmclient with kdeus, I cannot right click on a file and open with kwrite. I get the error: KDEInit could not launch 'kwrite'. If I do an su from a commad line, I get: command not found. If a do a su -m, I can launch kwrite, but not programs that are in /sbin. I think there might be a path issue, but I cannot seem to find where to correct this.
Now this all worked fine in 7.2, so I know it can be done. How do I fix this in 8.1?

Stan, Sounds like you are using the wrong commands to open gui programs as root. As long as I can remember, if you wanted to start kwrite as root, from a shell, then you need to log in with "sux" for that. I haven't used su -m, but have su and su -, but never used those to open a gui program. While kdesu should allow you to start a program as root, that program should be root after that. I use kdesu from a shell many times to give me a root file manager or kwrite.
