Hi, i just installed SUSE 10.1, and wanted to try XGL, which i had tried in SUSE 10.0, but compiz, doesn't work correctly with KDE 3.5.2, i was hoping this was a SUSE 10.0 bug, and was hopefully to be resolved in 10.1
Now i see the same problems with KDE in SUSE 10.1: 1. When i minimize a window, this windows just disappear, doesn't go to task bar. 2. The virtual desktop navigator in the task bar is use less.
Is there a plan or a work in progress to get XGL complete working with KDE ??
pd: Please excuse my bad english.
Marcel, I installed 10.1 from the DVD via SUSE yesterday. Xgl is a GREAT work in progress, however, it's NOT ready for "production" use yet. You have noted one bug, there are many others.....Kpackage, for example, renders the ability to minimize or close any window with the "corner" icons usless....no icons there any longer. Yast responds strange at times, windows don't come to the forefront with a move of the mouse as it should, there IS a performance hit with Xgl, the game X2, The Threat won't run, other 3D games claim there's no 3D graphics care available but will run anyway, couldn't get a Konsole window to show typed chrs...no matter what and no transparent Konsole, plus some oddities of windows not resizing, etc. I rewrote my scripts so that Xgl and Compiz don't run......waiting till it's solid. The upside, however, is that at least with the new nVidia driver, there is a NICE performance gain! I'm using a GeForce FX5300 card with 128MB of RAM - a PCI Express 16X. I now really cooks!
