I don't want to make any extra work for ourselves either - a good 12.2 has to be priority.
Absolutely.
openSUSE 12.2 is scheduled for 11 July, KDE SC 4.9.0 is scheduled for 1 August. Can't you just forget about 4.9 until after 12.2 is released and work exclusively on the actual distro?
Doesn't that leave time to build 4.9 in KDF after 12.2 is out, and link it to KR49 if it must be.
Playing "devil's advocate" here.... How much extra work is it to open a KDE49 repo and set up the build targets? I have no idea... I've only played with building single apps on OBS. Is it 2 hours work? 3 days? Can this be quantified in some tangible way? We are at a disadvantage as it stands now. KDE4.8.80 is already available on several other distros. Can we set up the repo and build targets and let it build without any openSUSE specific patching/tweaking? Ignoring it for at least 6 weeks comes at what long term cost? We (openSUSE) are supposed to be one of the leading KDE distros, but... We lagged in the 4.8 Betas, and now we will lag in the 4.9 betas that we may as well not participate in the Beta test cycle at all. By the time the KDE4.9 Beta build is ready and people here will have time to install/test, it will be released, and any bug-finding will be close to too late for KDE4.9. Well, that's my take on it. As it stands, if I want to test the improvements/changes/bugs in KDE 4.9, I (and others) have to install another distro or build all of KDE4.9 myself (in OBS maybe?) I can work with that if the decision stands to leave it until post-12.2... I wish I had time/knowledge (more a time issue) to take on the KDE49 repo setup :-( C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
