A few minutes after I posted my message I solved the problem spoken about above (re the BSOD).
Installing the new RPMs somehow set/reset the damn screensaver to not only to be ON but also (?deliberately) selected the BSOD screensaver (which I didn't even know existed) and, of course, it was this which I kept seeing when I returned to the Desktop using ...-F7!
*lmao* Didn't know about that screensaver yet, have to check mine ;-) Glad to here everything you solved that problem. I updated my 8.2 Pro installation to KDE 3.1.3 without problems and also installed the new packages released 08/26 without problems. Well, one small problem: for some reason kdebase3-samba was installed during my initial install, although I didn't install samba-client. The first upgrade to KDE 3.1.3 of kdebase3-samba went without problems, the new version (kdebase3-samba-3.1.3-57.i586.rpm) complained about smbclnt not being installed... Seems they changed the requirements for it. Unfortunately, kdebase3-samba is needed by kdenetwork3-lan, so I had to install samba-client too...
