I have had the same thing - gwenview crashes and will not open any picture file. Only since I updated to KDE 4.8.4 yesterday.

I think this is the bug report listed below: Bug 301685 - Gwenview Crashes After Apper Update
Everyone so far that has logged the bug report had updgraded to KDE 4.8.4. I didn't use Apper to upgrade, but I still had the same problem.
Thanks George,
I hadn't thought of doing a bug search :( I'll take a look at that bug report, but it certainly sounds like the cause. I also don't use Apper.

I have now added my 2p worth to bug 301685 :)

And got this reply: --- Comment #6 from Jekyll Wu <adaptee@gmail.com> --- (In reply to comment #5)
Gwenview also crashes here since upgrading to KDE 4.8.4. This is a 64 bit openSUSE 12.1 system. Gwenview runs OK on my 32 bit laptop, also running openSUSE 12.1 and KDE 4.8.4. Loading Gwenview on the 64 bit desktop system gives the following barrowhillfarm:~> gwenview gwenview: error while loading shared libraries: libkdeinit_gwenview.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Your problem is clearly a packaging problem. You should report it to the openSUSE bugtracker.
