and realized that there is also a SLE_12 branch at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Current/
At this moment Antonio Larossa from SUSE is working on this repository to get it fully available for SLE12.
Great to hear that!
However, the web page mentions that plasma is not part of these current releases as it is under LTS since 4.11 (whatever that means).
I think that you are mixing thisgs up here. KDE:Current offers a full KDE4 Desktop environment. Some parts of it however are under LTS (Long Term
That's exactly what I wasn't sure about, thanks for clarifying this! I was just confused by the remark on the web page. Knowing that the KDE:Current branch is a full KDE4 is all I need!
The KDE:Current repository will remain at the versions it is now and contains the latest KDE4 release. This repository will not be migrated to the upcoming Plasma5/Frameworks environment
That's fine as a stable KDE4 is enough for us to use with SLE 12 for the next years.
Are there any plans for maintaining a KDE branch for 4 and/or 5 for SLE 12 where one would at least get important security updates for some years?
This depends on the SLE maintainers more than on the openSUSE KDE community team. We will include a SLE target in the repo's, but it depends if it will fully build based on what SLE has as packages. In many situations it could be that either dependencies are missing or that lower versions are offered.
Building the KDE environment for SLE is not the primary target of the openSUSE KDE Community team.
