Just not your taste, or do you see it as a general problem? If the former, the tray icon theming is now part of the Plasma theme so they can be replaced without replacing the whole icon theme.

The feedback *we* (the Plasma team) got does clearly _not_ agree. I've seen many people go "Ooh, sexy!", and in total 2 people (including you) who don't like it so much. Given that people explain much more easily if they dislike something, and hardly ever give feedback if they like something, I consider the monochrome system tray One Big Success.
If you believe this, you have not seen https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=243387 which already has 200 votes. And in my opinion it is absolutly inconsitent to have white icons in the systray but the colored once in the configuration for the systray.
