[kde3][TW] impossible to have working KDM without xf86-input-libinput (or xf86-input-evdev or ...?)
Thus it seems in TW neither rpm is required by kdm or kdebase3, but without it, there is no keyboard or mouse available in KDM greeter. # inxi -S System: Host: fi965 Kernel: 6.5.9-1-default arch: x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: KDE v: 3.5.10 Distro: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20231106 # grep input /var/log/zypp/history | grep move 2023-02-03 20:25:21|remove |xf86-input-keyboard|1.9.0-2.9|x86_64|| 2023-06-19 23:25:49|remove |xf86-input-mouse|1.9.5-1.1|x86_64|root@fi965| 2023-09-18 02:55:24|remove |xf86-input-evdev|2.10.6-3.11|x86_64|root@fi965| # zypper se -si input | grep OSS i+ | libinput-udev | package | 1.24.0-1.1 | x86_64 | OSS i | libinput10 | package | 1.24.0-1.1 | x86_64 | OSS i | libxcb-xinput0 | package | 1.16-1.1 | x86_64 | OSS i+ | xf86-input-libinput | package | 1.4.0-1.1 | x86_64 | OSS i | xinput | package | 1.6.4-1.3 | x86_64 | OSS # Above is working, but I just installed xf86-input-libinput after finding KDM unusable. On this host, I had removed xf86-input-evdev on the last upgrade cycle, apparently after that test session was done, so I only now noticed that must be what caused me to notice only now. Yet, it isn't/wasn't required either, and likely same for xf86-input-keyboard/xf86-input-mouse pair. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science. Felix, We need to keep a list. I've run across a dozen or so missing dependencies of an exact similar nature. You will find a whole slew of them if you do a "Minimal X Install", add the KDE3 repo, and then select the kde packages to install. I should have written them down, but in the haste to get a system up, I just 'zypper in xyz....' and get on with it. But some packages are fairly significant. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
