This is also a curiosity I'm arriving at by deduction looking at the errors in .xsession-errors. It seems that for .jpg (.jpeg) files, kde3 actually does a conversion to .png in the decompression process and uses libpng for just about all images. For instance, rolling the mouse over: /usr/share/wallpapers/All-Good-People-1.jpg results in the error: QImage::convertDepth: Image is a null image and no preview is shown in the konqueror tooltip. This is also the same error ("image is null image") that is generated with kdm and ksplash .jpg backgrounds fail to load. But, the All-Good-People-1.jpg image is not a null image, clicking on it to open it in the embedded image viewer works fine and shows the image without problems. This error is repeated 5-6 times as you mouse-over various .jpg files, then it just stops, but no preview is ever displayed in the tooltip for .jpg or .svgz files. .png file preview just fine in the tooltips. This is new. So the bug I'm dealing with seems to be in the interface layer that handles preview and overlays then the actual core image viewing is working fine. On my laptop with TW that I have purposely not updated in a week or so, and that still has qt3-3.3.8c-168.1, the .jpg and .svgz tooltip previews work fine. cc: kde3@lists.o.o -- David C.
