[opensuse-kde3] 15.1 menu reconstruction
A fellow user who years ago frequented here suffered extreme visual impairment, which severely limits his ability to use his PC. At irregular intervals, I straighten out his problems, and do his release upgrades. Somehow in his desire to reduce clutter on Kicker by deleting unused objects he has managed to eliminate a large number of items from his main menu. Office is totally absent, even though the entirety of LibreOffice is installed. Likewise, Internet, Utilities and System are also missing. Is there some simple XDG or other way to regenerate the menu that doesn't eliminate menu customization or impact Kicker? <https://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/linux_desktop_guides/kde_desktop_user_guide/kde-menu.html> suggests touch $ KDEDIR /share/services/update_ksycoca which produces no such file or directory. # man ksycoca No manual entry for ksycoca # man xdgmenu No manual entry for xdgmenu # man update-menus No manual entry for update-menus $ ls -l .*xdg* *xdg* ls: cannot access '.*xdg*': No such file or directory ls: cannot access '*xdg*': No such file or directory :( -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science. After almost 2 days of no response here. I asked on the TDE users list. xdg-desktop-menu forceupdate and tdebuildsycoca both work. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science. Yep, Been out. Better with kbuildsycoca --noincremental to insure the cache is completely rebuilt from the config/desktop files. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

And yes, since we have fragmented the opensuse community into 10,000 lists with only 3 users per-list -- sometimes it takes a day or two. I can help but think that this fragmentation of the community from what was one of the most lively and best mailing lists going has contributed to the decline in the favorite distro survey. There hasn't even been a post to opensuse-packaging since 1/24. There are currently 74 (SEVENTY-FOUR) opensuse mailing lists: https://lists.opensuse.org/ Where in the beginning there was 1 -- David C. Sorry, I delay reading kde3 posts because I do not use the full kde3 desktop anymore. The answer you got is generic, though. But anyway I did not remember that command. I do use some kde3 tools, like rekall. Or used, because it is not built anymore. I am using the 42.3 package on 15.1 and crossing my fingers.

That one got 22940 mails in six months (200301..06), and that was also a problem. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
