[opensuse-kde3] What do I need to install to make kdepim3 work in plasma 5?
What do I need to do to install kdepim3 in a standard opensuse 42.2 KDE install? I don't want to switch back and forth between plasma 5 and KDE3. I'd rather install KDEPIM3 but don't know what I need to install from the KDE3 repository. Like with Plasma, all of one DE is not required in order to get one bit of software from it to run. I would trust the package management system to figure that out for you. Why not give it a chance? # zypper in -d kdepim3 Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Resolving package dependencies... The following 4 NEW packages are going to be installed: kdepim3 libbluetooth3 libgpgme11 libpisock9 The following package is recommended, but will not be installed (only required packages will be installed): spamassassin The following package is suggested, but will not be installed: kdetoys3 4 new packages to install. Overall download size: 10.5 MiB. Already cached: 0 B. Download only. Continue? [y/n/? shows all options] (y): -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." A mostly off-topic question: Is there any chance that KDE3's bluetooth utilities will be fixed anytime soon? I recently bought a bluetooth keyboard so that I can have one keyboard for multiple desktops, but the KDE3 bluetooth utilities just crash when I try to configure it. I have no bluetooth need nor devices, so can't help with this. There's probably no chance unless someone reports a bug with reliable reproduction steps. I see no such bug existing on https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/
The only conceivably related bugs I see are: When pairing a bluetooth mouse while wlan is activated plasma segfaults and takes all active users with it. https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1029999 and NetworkManager 1.8.0 crash/core dump on bluetooth connection https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1047794 Neither mention KDE3. Have you tried to configure through YaST2, possibly using an IceWM session instead of a KDE3? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." I have looked into using YaST2 for this, but I haven't seen any specific tool in YaST2 for bluetooth configuration. I have seen references to such in the forum, but if there is still such a tool, it's well hidden. In YaST2's Services Manager I see that bluetooth is enabled/active. The /etc/sysconfig Editor has a list of entries under Hardware -> Bluetooth, which are: START_SERVICES yes DAEMON_ENABLE yes DAEMON_EXEC /usr/sbin/bluetoothd DAEMON_ARGS RFCOMM_ENABLE yes RFCOMM_EXEC /usr/bin/rfcomm RFCOMM_ARGS -f /etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf bind all PAND_ENABLE no PAND_EXEC /usr/bin/pand PAND_ARGS --listen --role NAP DUND_ENABLE no DUND_EXEC /usr/bin/dund DUND_ARGS --listen --persist HID2HCI_ENABLE yes HID2HCI_EXEC /usr/sbin/hid2hci HID2HCI_ARGS --tohci I have no idea how to set these, and no idea where to look. There is a typically vague man file for bluetoothd but none at all for any of the other components in the above list. :-( Leslie -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org
