[opensuse-kde3] media notifier in KDE3, opensuse 12.1
Hello: I have installed openSUSE 12.1 with KDE3 on a new computer. The installed KDE3 packages are: kdebase3 packages from the hal-enabled repo, other KDE3 packages from the KDE3 repo. Almost everything works perfectly except of media notifier: After the first login (following a boot) the media notifier does not start. If I insert a USB pendrive or DVD, there is no response in KDE, KDE media notifier window does not open and the medium is not mounted. dmesg shows that the given media is recognized by the system. If I log out and log in again as the same user (without rebooting), and insert the media thereafter, the media notifier works, the window opens and the medium is mounted in /media. What can be the problem and how could I fix it? Thanks, Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

enable hal service in Yast.
Thank you Ilya. I have enabled hal service haldameon) in YaST/System/System services and it fixed the problem. Still I do not understand why running of the service is not necessary after the second login. Anyway it does not really matter. Yast enables the service once for all time. You do not need start it again manually unless you disable it. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

Yes I know this. I did not express my question clearly. When I said "Still I do not understand why running of the service is not necessary after the second login.", I meant a circumstance when hal is not enabled and is not running. That is if the hal dameon is not running: 1. Boot computer 2. Log in to KDE3; kde media notifier does not work. 3. Log out and log in to KDE3 again: now media notifier works. What triggers media notifier after the second login? It is obvious that after enabling hal service the notifier works from start. Are you sure that hal is not running? After installation if built with hal support kdebase executes the following command chkconfig haldaemon on it enables hal service but probably only after re-login. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

Ilya, after a new/bare install of 12.1/KDE3 and using the HAL-enabled repo, Haldaemon is *not* turned on ... even after rebooting. I must do it manually in Yast, and reboot; maybe log out/in works as well, but ... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org
