enable hal service in Yast.
Thank you Ilya. I have enabled hal service haldameon) in YaST/System/System services and it fixed the problem. Still I do not understand why running of the service is not necessary after the second login. Anyway it does not really matter.
Yast enables the service once for all time. You do not need start it again manually unless you disable it.
Yes I know this. I did not express my question clearly. When I said "Still I do not understand why running of the service is not necessary after the second login.", I meant a circumstance when hal is not enabled and is not running. That is if the hal dameon is not running: 1. Boot computer 2. Log in to KDE3; kde media notifier does not work. 3. Log out and log in to KDE3 again: now media notifier works. What triggers media notifier after the second login?
It is obvious that after enabling hal service the notifier works from start.
Are you sure that hal is not running? After installation if built with hal support kdebase executes the following command chkconfig haldaemon on it enables hal service but probably only after re-login. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org
