[opensuse-kde3] Overlapping windows disaster

Something has happened recently to my 11.4/KDE3 system, which causes all windows to open exactly on top of the previously- opened window. Yuk! I created a new user, and the problem does not occur for that user, so it must be corruption in one of my kde configuration files. But which? Nothing looks odd in .kde/share/config/kwinrc which would seem the most likely candidate. Any ideas?
