I've tried to put 11.4 and KDE3 on a spare laptop,
How did you install it? I recommend this image: https://susestudio.com/download/a4c3a89b00a3cc503e2f65d5a91281f5/OpenSUSE_1 1.4_KDE3.x86_64-1.0.35.iso
Previously I tried to follow the guides that install KDE3 without KDE4, and found it a little tricky. What I did this time was to install OpenSuse 11.4 64 bit, do all the updates, do the sound mods with a oneclick install, get all the KDE4 networking going, and then added the 11.4 KDE3 repo and the LibreOffice Stable repo. Then I added KDE3 with YAST and edited /etc/sysconfig for windowmanager and displaymanager. That got me a laptop with OpenSuse 11.4, KDE3 and KDE4, although I only use KDE3. Sound and amarok worked, too. The only thing that still bugs me is that the KDE4 Network manager doesn't start up by itself. I have to go to system, control applets, and then click on knetwork manager. It starts and my wireless connection works.
and had issues trying to configure the wireless, and add mp3, etc to sound. Can those parts of the install instructions be expanded ?
Either configure wireless with Yast2 wireless module or with knetworkmanager-kde3 In later case you would have to enable hald service in Yast.
What does the hald service do? I did enable it.
Telling us specifically what to add from the KDE 3.5 for stating up a wireless connection, and for the best process to add KDE3 mp3 support would be very helpful.
You can also try kde3-wlassistant http://storage1.static.itmages.ru/i/11/1016/h_1318713164_4400816_0ddaa984fa .png
But I think knetworkmanager-kde3 is the best choice.
I've got KDE4 version of knetworkmanager working now, except for not automatically starting. -- Robert Smits bob@rsmits.ca Television is an invention that permits you to be entertained in your living room by people you wouldn't have in your home...David Frost -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org
