Tach,
I know it sounds stupid. But it happens at times. I have forgotten my root password. Is there a way out. Actually I would not like to install over it.
Not very ISDN specific, but 1) try typing "init=/bin/sh" at the LILO boot-prompt. Welcome the the root-shell 2) if 1 doesn' t work for you, boot your system with a rescue disk, mount your /-partition and vi /mnt/root/etc/passwd /mnt/root/etc/shadow hope that helps, Walter
Hi! Try to boot the normal Installation procedure. BUT: choose from the Menu 'Start installed system' the item 'Start emergency system' (I don't know the exact description of th menu). Log in as root with no password. Then you can mount your old root partition to /mnt and edit /mnt/etc/shadow. Remove the encrypted passwd of the user 'root' (leave the ':' untouched!. Remove the boot disk and reboot the system. YOu may now log in as user root without a password... Regards Ferdinand
