Hi
Ok things are going a bit better now thanks to Jan's mails. I put the next line in /etc/modules.autoload: hisax type=18 protocol=2 id=HiSax0 (for an elsa 1000pci-card) Now at startup hisax starts and the isdn-device files are there.
Good.
But when the script /etc/init.d/net.ippp0 is run at startup or with /etc/init.d/net.ippp0 start I get
*Loading isdnctrl configuration ... Section 'ISDNCTRL' has no entry 'INTERFACES' *ERROR: Problem starting needed services. * "net.ippp0" was not started.
I'm working on it but I didn't find out yet how to proceed for making isdnctrl load a good configuration.
You just use isdnctrl. With no parameters isdnctrl gives you a list of all parameters it has. Also look at 'man isdnctrl'. You should create at least one interface (ippp0) with an outgoing telephone-number, layer2-protocol hdlc, encapsulation syncppp, your MSN and an appropriate hup-timeout. Default for this is 10 seconds which is a little low, I think.
Afterwards just try to start /etc/init.d/net.ippp0 start again.

This seems all to be fine.
But when I do /etc/init.d/net.ippp0 start it's still the same:
*Loading isdnctrl configuration ... Section 'ISDNCTRL' has no entry 'INTERFACES'
*ERROR: Problem starting needed services. * "net.ippp0" was not started.

Well, there's one little more thing to do I forgot to tell. After doing all this isdnctrl-stuff you need to run '/etc/init.d/isdn4linux stop'. This will save your current isdnctrl-config to the file configured in '/etc/conf.d/isdn4linux' and so '/etc/init.d/net.ippp0 start' should work. Gruß Jan
It's perfect now It was a bit more complicated . When I did /etc/init.d/isdn4linux stop it said: ERROR: "net.ippp0" has not yet been started. Funny! So when I looked in the isdn4linux script I saw the command isdnctr writeconf and that command works ok,It wrote the config to /etc/isdn/isdn.conf. Another funny thing is that tehe options writeconfig and readconf are not in man isdnctrl Now still with /etc/init.d/net.ippp0 start I get *Loading isdnctrl configuration ... Section 'ISDNCTRL' has no entry 'INTERFACES' *ERROR: Problem starting needed services. * "net.ippp0" was not started. So when I looked again at the isdn-script,I saw that they get the variable ISDNCTRL_SAVE from /etc/conf.d/isdn4linux and there it was set to some obscure place like /var/lib.When I set it to /etc/isdn/isdn.conf and copied tthe pap-secrets I could do emerge lynx and an hour or so later the miracle was completed. Viele Danke Jan,it was fun! Without your help I would probably have give it up Gruss jaap Le Jeudi 14 Août 2003 05:06, Jan Girlich a écrit :

I'm glad to hear this.

Well, actually in /etc/isdn/isdn.conf are some other important things needed for isdnlog to work correct.
Another funny thing is that tehe options writeconfig and readconf are not in man isdnctrl
I don't know if this is just undocumented or added by gentoo.
Now still with /etc/init.d/net.ippp0 start I get
*Loading isdnctrl configuration ... Section 'ISDNCTRL' has no entry 'INTERFACES'
*ERROR: Problem starting needed services. * "net.ippp0" was not started.

Just like I said before: you wrote the config into a file which is designated for other purposes. The file /var/libisdn4linux/isdnctrl.conf is the one which should contain the isdnctrl-config and where you should have written the isdnctrl-config to. Correct this and reinstall /etc/isdn/isdn.conf and adjust it to your needs like area-prefix and so on.
Viele Danke Jan,it was fun! Without your help I would probably have give it up
You're welcome. We reached a working system, but soon you'll have a well-working system. Jan
