x2go Problem

Hallo Kalle, ich habe zwar auf meine Mail an die x2go Entwickler Mailingliste keine Antwort bekommen, habe aber gesehen, dass das Problem dort noch immer als offener Bug geführt wird. Ein Mitglied der Liste hat den Fehler auch genauer analysiert und dabei festgestellt, dass man sich beim x2go Projekt, genauer beim darin enthaltenen nxagent auf eine ältere X-Server Umgebung stützt. Neuere Implementationen auf neueren Linux-Distributionen gehen mit den Schriftarten im X-Server allerdings anders um. Hier eine Erläuterung aus der x2go ML: "Yes, I am talking about Gentoo specific packaging issue. I have filed https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=559370 to track it down. As I mentioned, the specific files being talked about are the font files in /usr/share/fonts/misc (/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc on Ubuntu) which are character encodings specific e.g. 9x15-ISO8859-*.pcf.gz. nxagent can not load a fixed size font '9x15' without the presence of these files. It looks like these are abandoned by modern X code because both Xorg and Xvnc work fine without these files. " D.h. Es gibt jetzt wohl zwei Methoden, entweder muss das Problem innerhalb der Linux-Distributionen behoben werden, was unwahrscheinlich ist, da dies einen Rückschritt in der Entwicklung bedeuten würde oder der nxagent wird auf neuere Füsse gestellt. Letzteres scheint das erklärte Ziel der x2go Entwickler zu sein. Ich werde es weiter beobachten, allerdings scheint eine schnelle Lösung nicht in Sicht. OpenERP on invis Server

Hi there, in our spins:invis OBS-repository we built a few days ago packages for "OpenERP-Server" and "OpenERP-Webclient". Both packages are working on openSUSE 11.3, 11.4 and factory. Installation and running the daemons is possible, but there are some problems left, where i need help! (I am neither a rpm-packaging crack nor a Python developer.) The webclient has a character-coding problem. My browser shows the site in "ISO-8859-1", but everything is done in "UTF-8". I found no place where I can fix that problem. If somebody has enough time an skills in Python, it would be nice if he/you could help us. PHP PTY Support

Hi, thanks to Christian Rodriguez, our problem with the factory PHP is solved. Christian enabled PTY support in proc_open for Factory. The new version should be available in openSUSE:Factory and devel:languages:php. Invis Server Packages

Hi all, this has been silent recently, too silent ;-) Lets try to get some concrete action items we can work on. First step should be to have an overview over all packages the Invis server needs. In a perfect world, these should all be part of the openSUSE:Factory project as that garantees the best integration with the distribution. For packages that do absolutely not fit into Factory for what reason ever, I suggest to create the server:invis project in OBS and put them there. Later on, we can put the Kiwi-Image file, which is used to create the iso image of the openSUSE Invis Server, into the server:invis repo and let OBS create the image. In the ideal world we only would have the product kiwi file in server:invis. Is everybody agreeing on that? As a first action item, we should go through the list of packages installed through the Invis setup script and check if they are in Factory. If not, we should move them to Factory, or, as a second possibility, to server:invis. I created a list of packages some time ago which get directly installed by the Invis setup script (attached again). The list of packages which are not yet in Factory is comparably short: afio -> home:flacco ipcalc -> home:flacco smbldap-tools -> home:flacco php5-APC -> server:php:extensions php5-pear-mail -> server:php:applications phpMyAdmin -> server:php:applications We should try to push these to Factory. Backup on Blu-Ray BD-R/RE discs

My homeserver won't be equipped with a tape streamer device, but with a Blu-Ray burner capable to use 50GB BD-R/RE (Blu-Ray Recordable/REwriteable) Discs. I wonder if standard Linux backup tools as tar and dump have support for CD/DVD/BD devices? And what about using UDF file system here for portability (udftools)? Rgds, Terje J. Group-e and PHP

Hi, as said I asked Christian Rodriguez, the SUSE PHP5 maintainer, about the issue with group-e. <technical> The issue is that group-e uses pipes which need support of pseudoterminals in php5. We do not have that and I guess in upstream it is also disabled, because there are problems with that. The group-e code that causes the problem can be seen here: http://paste.opensuse.org/82557957 </technical> Christian suggests to try to solve the problem in group-e's code. I investigated a bit, but did not find a solution yet, maybe Christian can help here, I am waiting on his answer. Is somebody in touch with group-e upstream? It does not seem they're seeking out for much devleoper community :( Maybe they have a solution already? OTOH they mention in their FAQ another solution for this problem which is to use "Samba mount" instead of smbclient, see http://wiki.group-e.info/index.php/FAQ and http://wiki.group- e.info/index.php/Administratorenhilfe:Konfiguration_Samba_Dateimanager It would be the easiest solution to go for that by default. Project spins:invis is there!

Hi, today I created the openSUSE Invis Server project in the OBS. It should be used as a devel project for our packages that should go into Factory. Basically all of the packages needed for invis should go to Factory. Please refer to http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:How_to_contribute_to_Factory how we should move the packages to Factory. For to be able to work in the spins:invis, you must be maintainer in the project. Currently only kfreitag is maintainer, please let me know your account name and I happily add you. It is now time to do work. openSUSE Invis Server

Hi, some of you might have realised in [1] that there formed a (still) little team of people that works to make the connection between the Invis Server [2] and openSUSE more tight and finally release an openSUSE Invis Server as an openSUSE derivate with own isos etc. The Invis Server is an already existing solution, running in productive environments in the world on top of openSUSE. The core developer, Stefan Schäfer, is part and initiator of the openSUSE Invis Team. Our current plan is to first identify the packages that are needed for Invis Server and push them to Factory as they fit. For others, we'd like to create a repo in OBS to maintain these there. I have two concrete calls for help: 1. Mighty people of the server project in the OBS, please create a subproject server server:Invis where we can put packages. I guess thats the right place? 2. we would appreciate help, especially of packagers. Invis server in a virtual machine

I won't have a dedicated hardware for the Invis server, at least not in my first 'lab phase' when I have to use my AM3 machine as a combined home workstation and server. Did I hear that's a bad idea :) Now and then I have played a little with Xen virtualization on openSUSE, and the SLES/Xen/OES2/W2k3TS evironment works well for us on my workplace, though not configured technically by myself. Can Invis be installed and run streamlined on a Xen/openSUSE virtual machine (domU), or will this complicate? Terje J.
