Re: [suse-amd64] Sata Raid Controller for 64 bit?
Hi to all, I got the 9550SX-4LP. It works great. OS: Suse 10. The only thing I had to do is a firmware update to the controller and to specify the drivers at Suse installation. Now, I read about some problems when updating Suse ... more exactly a kernel update, that the drives are not seen anymore after a reboot. I would like to update the suse but I work remote and if the system doesn't boot anymore then I have BIG problems. Do you have any suggestions? or... it should work well.... Check out the 9550SX-4LP. I have used all three (8506, 9500, and 9550) and performance gets better with each version.

Hi again,
We had this discution last year. Now I have time to reinstall the system... and to order the raid controller.
I will buy one of these: 3WARE 9500S-4 4HD RAID 3WARE 8506- 4 4HD RAID.
OS will be Suse 9.1(maybe 10... but not 100%)
I have 4 SATA HDD's and want to build a 10 Raid.
According to some benchmarks the 8506 is faster then the 9500S. http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=9500s4lp&page=8
Now, I don't know which one should I buy. The price difference is 30 EURO more for the 9500.
Any suggestion is welcome.
Andy.

We are also running the 3dm software to monitor the card/RAID set.

Does anyone uses some good raid controllers and could give me some informations?
I have been using 3ware sata raid on two different machines here at work with amd 64 cpu's in them with no problem. suse has the 3ware driver built in for years now. been using 3ware raid cards for years also with no problems. now I am not sure what they cost in EURO's since im in the US.

Hi Andy, I upgraded a system with a RAID1 array to SuSE 10.0 at the weekend. There was a warning that the new kernel does not support RAID controllers at all and the system needed to be migrated to a software RAID array. Since I had already done this, there was no problem. I would suggest that you look at migrating from hardware to software RAID before you upgrade. Nick On Tuesday 14 February 2006 10:19, Andy wrote:
