Re: support vs. users (was: greetings & first question...)

The idea is to post strictly support related questions to the support mail list, while this list is generic.
Don't worry, it is mostly irrelevant, IMHO. :-D
But I understand it confuses newcomers.
What exactly is the difference between a "users" list and a "support" list? What subject(s) are common from "users" that don't constitute the subject of either another list, or support? The existence of both where many exist creates confusion. The changeover of list servers should have consolidated the two. -- Evolution as taught in public schools, like religion, is based on faith, not on science. Team OS/2 ** Reg. Agree, but please take it up with the Board.

That would have been an option, but again, it is up to the Board. I agree with you, having both is downright stupid. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (7.0°C) Member, openSUSE Heroes

Yes this was the general idea, previous boards had tried many times to get the old opensuse@ list to be on ontopic support only list but a significant percentage of active users there rejected this idea via there ongoing behavior so the support list was created. We also recognised that list was its own long standing community and didn't see a strong enough argument to close the old list down. Maybe discussion rather then users would be a less confusing name for it however. -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adelaide Australia, UTC+10:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B
