[heroes] [Junior job] Checking planet.opensuse.org feeds
Hello, I have a nice task for someone who wants to get started with some easy admin tasks ;-) I spent some time to check if / how many of the feeds on planet.opensuse.org are broken - after two obvious fixes (see pull request 48), I noticed 36 broken feeds. You can find my test script and the list of currently broken feeds attached to https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/16070 The next steps are - re-check the broken feeds in a few days to filter out temporary outages (this can be done using my script) - have a quick look at the domain of each feed to see if there's an obvious, easy fix (for example, does the RSS feed have a new filename?) - otherwise, find out how to contact the affected users [1] and mail/$whatever them, asking if they have a new blog or if we should "just" remove the broken feed - for each result, update the feed list and send a pull request ;-) The feed list (which also includes IRC nicks etc.) is in "planetsuse/feeds" on https://github.com/opensuse/planet.opensuse.org and everybody who knows how to fork a repo can help ;-) Help is more than welcome - it will need some time, but besides that, it's quite easy. If someone wants to pick this up, just send a short notice (here or in the ticket) to avoid duplicate work. If you need some help to get started, just ask ;-) Regards, Christian Boltz [1] connect.opensuse.org and "osc whois" might be useful tools. For people who have an IRC nick listed, pinging them on IRC might also work. -- * cboltz votes for the boring version - can't <sarnold> that's a bit informal for a mandatory security platform :) <sbeattie> ah, but you see, contractions are informal, and we can't, err can not, err cannot, err can ?not have that. Hey! I'm willing to take up the task, I'll check your script first thing in the morning :) On 18 March 2017 at 21:45, Christian Boltz <opensuse@cboltz.de> wrote:

This gave me the idea of using CI tests at the planet repo, see https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/17802 And yet another long term idea would be to fully generate the planet configs from the opensuse profile eg on connect.o.o -- Theo Chatzimichos <tampakrap@opensuse.org> <tchatzimichos@suse.com> System Administrator SUSE Operations and Services Team
Update: I scan daily the sites with Christian's script and will continue till the end of the week. After that I will check the RSS feeds and then contact the owners of the sites to let them know of the situation and how to proceed On 20 March 2017 at 13:20, Theo Chatzimichos <tampakrap@opensuse.org> wrote:

Thanks for the update! First a general note - planetsuse/feeds contains more information on the blog owners (Realname, IRC nick etc.). This is not available for everybody, but it can still help to find people. The easiest solution is to ask them on IRC if the IRC nick is listed ;-) However, there might be more interesting cases where searching for people on our mailinglists or on connect.opensuse.org could help. In the end, we'll probably have to ask for the still-missing persons on the opensuse-project mailinglist ;-) (this mail should also include a hint how to get added on planet.opensuse.org). I'll leave it to you how much time you want to spend on searching for people ;-) Some notes on specific entries on your list: For http://blog.karlitschek.de/ - http://karlitschek.de/about/ has a mail address that hopefully works. (For some reason unknown to me, all subdomains (even www.) seem to point to a completely different page.) http://spotlight.opensuse.org/feed/ was used by one of our previous openSUSE community managers (IIRC Zonker). Since the page is gone, feel free to remove that feed. BTW: You can send a pull request whenever you have some changes ready. Waiting until you found out about everybody might take a while ;-) Regards, Christian Boltz -- Are you complaining because we are lacking a time machine and are not able to backport fixes from the future into current kernels?
