[heroes] what to do with mailing list archives when a list is closed?
I have recently closed a couple of mailing lists - or merged one into another. When I remove the description from the index, the links to the archives also disappear. I guess keeping the archives is not a bad idea, but they should still be linked. How about a "Closed lists" category on the index page? Bit like a grave yard, I know - opinions? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (23.0°C) Member, openSUSE Heroes -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: heroes+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: heroes+owner@opensuse.org

see https://lists.opensuse.org for what it might look like. I would want to move "Closed lists" to the bottom of the page though. I guess list_indexgen can be fixed. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (23.0°C) Member, openSUSE Heroes -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: heroes+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: heroes+owner@opensuse.org

I like the idea to keep the archives of closed mailinglists available, and having them in a category like "Closed lists" is also a good idea, so +1 from me ;-) One small change I'd like to propose is to add some hints about the former purpose of the list in the description and (when applicable) its replacement, for example (yes, I'm aware that it might be a bit too verbose ;-) opensuse-wiki This list is closed. It was used for discussions about the openSUSE wiki. Replacement: the opensuse-web mailinglist

Instead of changing the script, maybe try to play with leading spaces. If you are lucky, " Development" (with leading space) gets sorted before "Closed lists" (without space) ;-) Regards, Christian Boltz -- Maybe (as it's just repackaging), it could even run on some ppc64 obs-servers that must be quite depressed and have worn down their thumbs quite a lot from twiddling them, chronically having nothing to do ... Thanks for the feedback. :-)

Yes, I know what you mean. The description files were deleted (so the list does not appear on lists.o.o), but I can proabbly make up some descriptions.

Just tried it now - no such luck. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (24.1°C) Member, openSUSE Heroes -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: heroes+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: heroes+owner@opensuse.org

That way the closed archives would be searchable through google etc. Thanks for bringing this up, Per.
