[heroes] purpose of widehat / rsync.o.o
Just thinking out loud - widehat is used as an http and an rsync mirror. For http, it participates as any other mirror in the infrastructure. For rsync, it is used by people who run non-public (shadow) mirrors. http – nice to have, but probably a drop in the ocean. Plenty of other and bigger http mirrors for individual users. rsync – for shadow mirrors. Benefit - by widehat being external instead of running on pontifex, we make more bandwidth available for public mirrors. Thorsten ran some nice stats last night, showing a daily rate of 200-300Mbit/s, with peaks at up to 500Mbit/s. The monthly average over the last 6 months is around 230Mbit/s. Instead of improving on the widehat setup, maybe we should consider getting some more bandwidth for stage.o.o? I don't know what is available in the Nürnberg offices, but around here, a 1Gbit/s fibre link is 60/month. (more if you want a business SLA). Yes, "Salt" also offer 10Gbit at 50/month, but I have my doubts about that one :-) (fix IP, uptime, actual thruput). -- Per Jessen, Zürich (10.2°C) Member, openSUSE Heroes -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: heroes+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: heroes+owner@opensuse.org
