I wasn't told, I do not read news. I am one of the two volunteers charged with coping with spam there, and I can not do my job. We have asked many times for this move, but it would have been nice that somebody had emailed us directly :-/ -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from oS Leap 15.2 x86_64 (Minas Tirith))

I'm deeply sorry that we left you out of the conversation. That was not intended. We tried to reach out to as many people as possible - and in the end decided that the best way would be to use https://news.opensuse.org in addition to catch the ones we forgot or could not reach directly. Our assumption was that news.o.o would be the place where we can reach out to everyone interested in openSUSE. If that's not the case, I would like to know how we can improve here. So here is my question: How - beside any personal contact - do you get news around openSUSE?

Again: sorry. Feel free to blame me directly for this - but I did not left you out by intention (to my defend). With kind regards, Lars

There is always room for improvement. Feel free to submit your issues and patches to https://github.com/openSUSE/news-o-o From what I've seen, valid pull requests get merged very quickly there. Thanks, Lars

Generally via the mailing lists - I virtually never go to visit news.o.o :-) I think it would have been nice to announce the closing of connect.o.o to e.g. project.lists ? maybe also announcement.lists. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (20.8°C) Member, openSUSE Heroes

Yeah i'd second the send it to the project list as well even if its as simple as "Connect is closing down, read more at <News Link>", I think we reasonably expect people interested in project wide news to read one or the other but not both. -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adelaide Australia, UTC+10:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B

Yes, that would have been appropriate. It was there where I saw the need for volunteers for connect and where I volunteered, somewhere in Feb 2019. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from oS Leap 15.2 x86_64 (Minas Tirith))

done: Email sent out to announce@lists.opensuse.org now.

Sorry that I missed that application. What do you need to upgrade connect.o.o to a maintainable state in terms of code and setup? - I'm sure we find a way to support you here. With kind regards, Lars

No no, the site is best removed. We volunteered while this could not be done to keep it free of spam, so that we had two admin accounts for that purpose. As a temporary hack, not permanent. We asked for it to be removed after a year of that temporary hack. We thought it would be a few months and it has been three years. That was my main role as "hero". A very simple one. My only complain is that we were not told when the site was removed, as we had asked (we wanted the site gone). When I tried to login to do my job, I found the site was not there. I'm not home, I only have here an old slow laptop, so I did not try to login earlier. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from oS Leap 15.2 x86_64 (Minas Tirith))

Of course, I was still late in reading it, but your post to announcements.lists was exactly right! -- Per Jessen, Zürich (21.4°C) Member, openSUSE Heroes
