[heroes] Re: unsubscribe opensuse-updates
The attachment should have generated a response over two hours ago, right? I don't see anything. Is something about subscription management known broken? A recent/subsequent attempt to do same generated a waiting on moderator message. Then I switched the "To" from ...@opensuse.org to ...@lists.opensuse.org and tried again. That was over half an hour ago, and still no response.

The address is incorrect. You did: From: (you) To: opensuse-updates+unsubscribe@opensuse.org Subject: unsubscribe It should be: From: (you) To: updates-leave@lists.opensuse.org Subject: unsubscribe (irrelevant) Or you could go to: CB> On the lists.o.o login page, the best option is to click the "openSUSE" CB> button (in the top row). It will take you to the openID login where you CB> can login with your openSUSE account. Then on: <https://lists.opensuse.org/manage/lists/updates.lists.opensuse.org/> unsubscribe. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

Subject: unsubscribe (irrelevant) Certainly is. Maybe not to the list software or admins, but definitely there are to be no messages without subjects to be kept in any of my mail folders.

It is not unwarranted change. You know that the list server software changed from mlmmj to mailman3, it *had* to change, and each one is free to have its own way of doing things. So the team is not free to choose commands, they are a given. If you look at this very list headers, you see some commands: List-Id: Discussion list of the openSUSE infrastructure admins <heroes.lists.opensuse.org> Archived-At: <https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/heroes@lists.opensuse.org/message/DO4WZJ6EYW7246YEOAPGCGA6ZO5YEMYO/> List-Archive: <https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/heroes@lists.opensuse.org/> List-Help: <mailto:heroes-request@lists.opensuse.org?subject=help> List-Post: <mailto:heroes@lists.opensuse.org> List-Subscribe: <mailto:heroes-join@lists.opensuse.org> List-Unsubscribe: <mailto:heroes-leave@lists.opensuse.org> If you run the list help command, you get a different subset (notice that in this case the To address changes, and the command goes in the subject AND the body: confirm - Confirm a subscription request. echo - Echo back your arguments. end - Stop processing commands. help - Get help about available email commands. join - Join this mailing list. leave - Leave this mailing list. stop - An alias for 'end'. subscribe - An alias for 'join'. unsubscribe - An alias for 'leave'.
Subject: unsubscribe (irrelevant) Certainly is. Maybe not to the list software or admins, but definitely there are to be no messages without subjects to be kept in any of my mail folders.

The correct address is

My normal procedure for well over a decade to unsubscribe with all subscribed lists from whatever host that doesn't require the web to start or stop a subscription is to find and start with the related subscribe message(s). In this case, the first was on 8 November 2020 (successful) addressed to: opensuse-updates+subscribe@opensuse.org So what I did to unsub initially was select "edit as new" that message and add two characters in each field in the appropriate location: "un" (6 keystrokes in total). I have no recollection nor record of that particular sub being changed from the old software to the new. Obviously this particular process was a victim of the software change timing, and nearly everything about the list changing, including obfuscating (in part through required script support that made me cease to use Fedora's lists' archive) the archived post groups that are the primary reason to have an archive. -- Evolution as taught in public schools, like religion, is based on faith, not on science. Why don't you look at the mail headers to see the current unsubsribe procedure? When I open an email from the list in Alpine, I see at the bottom this: [ Note: This message contains email list management information ] If I click on that line, I get a menu: +++······················ List participation commands in this message include: * A method to get information about the list and instructions on how to join. Select HERE to seek help. * A method to remove yourself from the list (Unsubscribe). Select HERE to UNsubscribe. * A method to add yourself to the list (Subscribe). Select HERE to Subscribe. * A method to send a message to the entire list (Post). Select HERE to post a message. * A method to view archive of messages sent to the list. Select HERE to view the archive. ······················++- I just have to tap on the option I want to execute, and my very old mail program does the job. It creates an email command with the correct TO and Subject lines, automatically. Other mail programs could do the same automatism for free.
I have no recollection nor record of that particular sub being changed from the old software to the new.
It was obviously going to change... Maybe it could have been mentioned.
Obviously this particular process was a victim of the software change timing, and nearly everything about the list changing, including obfuscating (in part through required script support that made me cease to use Fedora's lists' archive) the archived post groups that are the primary reason to have an archive.

Nice and web together constitutes an oxymoron. Nice applies only to the information the web provides access to. The process of accessing is anything but nice. e.g. for the instant case, an email from this list contains no direct reference to the web interface. Once found, one is confronted with yet another web login, even though currently logged in on both bugzilla.opensuse.org and forums.opensuse.org. -- Evolution as taught in public schools, like religion, is based on faith, not on science. Since bugzilla uses LDAP login and not the login proxy, you don't get logged into bugzilla by being logged into forums anymore either ;) I kinda wish we used id.opensuse.org properly so all of the services would automatically login, but we use login proxy, ldap and sso independently instead, so the experience varies a lot. He wrote to both. First to the '-', got this:
<opensuse-updates+leave@lists.opensuse.org>: host mx2.opensuse.org[195.135.221.158] said: 554 5.4.0 Error: too many hops (in reply to end of DATA command)
Then instead of opening the ticket he tried the '+'.
There is nothing to open a ticket on.
Felix wrote exactly _one_ email to "updates-leave@lists.opensuse.org", at 2033 CET last night. The rest of his attempts went to the wrong addresses.
No. He also wrote to "updates-leave@lists.opensuse.org" and got:
Umm, isn't that what I said above?
The thing to notice is the reply he got - see below:
<opensuse-updates+leave@lists.opensuse.org>: host mx2.opensuse.org[195.135.221.158] said: 554 5.4.0 Error: too many hops (in reply to end of DATA command)
I can assure you he did not receive that in reply to any email sent to "updates-leave@lists.opensuse.org".
It is a wrong address, but the error message is not "wrong address".
This is described on
I'm looking at the mail logs. Felix wrote exactly _one_ email to "updates-leave@lists.opensuse.org", at 2033 CET last night.
Then what address did he use that he got that reply? Could it be "opensuse-updates+leave@lists.opensuse.org"? -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

It's pretty clear at this point that Felix is doing this to aggravate and complain. The changes had been outlined in the migration page, and had been discussed prior to that. He also knew he could just use the Postorius interface to manage all of his subscriptions and refused to use that either. -- 真実はいつも一つ!/ Always, there's only one truth!
Why did you insist on writing to the wrong addresses, instead of the single one I told you, which was the correct one? The first three all left here before I saw your first reply. That leaves three screw-ups subsequently. I'm sure you don't really want the details why I screwed up. But, you did ask. Contributors number several.
