SuSE 9.1 Pro Lockups
Hello... I am having big problems with SuSE v9.1 Professional while running the native ham radio suite. Specifically, it appears as if LinuxNode has a problem. What seems to be happening is that when someone connects to LinuxNode and goes through some of the basic functions, my computer completely locks up. I am not 100% sure that it is LinuxNode causing it. I do know for sure that when I kill AX25IPD, NETROMD, and AX25D, everything is ok. My FBB BBS and DXNET systems, as well as TCPIP work just fine without locking up the computer after I kill those applications off... I am then stuck with telnet-only access and my AXIP partners are left out in the cold, which is not a good thing.... I have patched XFBBD 7.04J with the console.h patch and finally was able to access my BBS again. However, this lockup problem keeps coming back and I have been forced to kill off my AXIP links and run only telnet in order to keep my system operational. I believe that we have the latest version of LinuxNode on the system as well. It, like everyting I am running, was compiled right there on my computer to guarantee maximum reliability... A friend of mine who is very knowledgeable of the linux ham radio suite is also very confused as to what is happening. That is why I am approaching this list to see if anyone else is experiencing similar problems with the ham radio apps on SuSE 9.1 Pro. We have, by the way, tried the packages that came on the SuSE 9.1 Pro distribution, plus have gone elsewhere and downloaded what we thought was the most up to date packages, but still the same problem keeps occuring. We compiled everything on my machine without error but still things keep locking up when communication occurs in LinuxNode. I am wondering if there might be a new kernel release, or maybe a fallback kernel, say to 2.4x, that might solve my problems? It seems like kernel 2.6x has major problems with the ham apps, or vice-versa. I experienced similar lockup problems several years ago with SuSE v7.3 Pro and had to go to another kernel version to overcome the problems. I ran that on another computer until just a few weeks ago when I upgrated to a much faster and more reliable computer with SuSE 9.1 Pro installed. Now I am experiencing deja-vu with a similar lockup problem. Thank for any help or constructive suggestions you might provide. 73, Gary, W7NTF
