Just reading the message below. You should find configuring ax25 support in SUSE 8 quite easy. If you goto the suse control panel and select install/remove programs. Then install all the ham radio programs supplied by suse. You must install Libax25, axtools & axutils minimum. Configure /etc/ax25 files, i can help you there if you like. To activate suse linux kernel support insmod ax25 insmod netrom insmod baycom (if you use baycom) you then need to turn on interfaces with kissattach etc etc I put all mine in one script and run that at boot time. For YFS BBS i never had to recompile the supplied Suse 8Pro kernel. My ports are: 1 x 144.925 IP port 1 X 70cms mail forwarding port 1 X axip Internet connectivity port 1 X axudp Internet connectivity port 1 X ipip (Tunel) ampr net gateways port 1 X eth0 ethernet port link to my ADSL Router 1 X eth1 ethernet port for Lan I run: Linux FBB Exim SMTP mail Qpop Pop3 server INN News server Apache Web Server HTPP Converse server MailGW Mailgateway (ax25 <-> TCPIP) and more. This is all done on one Suse8 400Mhz Machine which sits most of its life idling away nicely. CPU states: 0.5% user, 1.3% system, 0.0% nice, 98.0% idle As a BBS system this is where Linux wins, it just runs and runs and doesnt require a fast machine. If i can help you any more please let me know. Ian G6VEY SYSOP GB7YFS telnet://gb7yfs.org.uk http://www.gb7yfs.org.uk On Thu, 2003-06-12 at 09:21, Eddie Leighton wrote:
Hi,
Seems not much activity on this thread?
I have Suse 8 installed (Text mode) on a Pentium 200 with 32 Mb RAM.
I want to get AX25 to work with a serial baycom modem for packet radio. My callsign is ZS6BNE in South Africa.
When installing AX25 using YAST2 the software is installed , but where do I go from here?
Is it nescessary to recompile the kernal as many of the "How to's" state?
Any guidelines for the Baycom would be most welcome.
I have installed LinPac which complains that the AX25 ports have not been set up.
Looking forward to any comments and suggestions. (Please don't ask me to use the How to , I've been down that road and it is too complex. :o) ) I'm looking for a practical , working solution.
Looking forward to your reply,
Thanks,
