This is what I have in Yast2:
Login:erikja Name:Erik Jakobsen UID:1000 Groups:uucp,dialout,video,users
Hmmm, seems to be ok. I also added my local user to the group "uucp". After that, I installed "kptc" and also got the message "modem device not found" Then in "Options" -> "Settings" I changed the port to my default serial port (/dev/ttyUSB0 on my laptop), and the message didn't appear again. As I told you, I have no Pactor hardware, so I can't check if it really works, but it seems to be ok! Did you really check for the correct serial port in your settings menu? If it is a USB -> Serial converter, you should set it to (normally) "/dev/ttyUSB0", otherwise try out "/dev/ttyS0" (first serial port) or "/dev/ttyS1" (second serial port).... Did it really worked as root? Did you check with the same settings? Did you logoff after adding "erikja" to the group "uucp". This step is very important!
