[opensuse-gnome] disable window grouping
One annoying thing with TW is the grouping of windows per app in the Alt+Tab switcher. While I can get away with a single xterm+thunderbird+whatever window, it becomes cumbersome with private+non-private Firefox windows. Does our version of GNOME contain a knob to get a usable behaviour? If not, please add one. GNOME Tweak Tool does not seem to contain a knob. Bonus points if the windows are not list listed by argv[0] basename, but with some more info (window title?). Switching to a random "rdesktop" window will move the focus into that window and the next Alt+Tab attempt will happen within that OS. zypper in gnome-shell-classic (or gnome-shell-extensions-common, I can't remember which provides it). Then you should have the alternate-tab extension available. In you case (coming from 11.4 from what I understand), you might want to try the gnome-shell-classic (select from gdm login window) instead. Note that you will probably need to issue a systemctl restart display -manager.service from a VT (or just reboot) before that option is available from gdm. /Bjørn -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

I had to change from gnome to gnome-classic in /etc/sysconfig/windowmanager. Unfortunately this variant eats even more space: The top menu bar, the huge window title bars and now also the task bar at the bottom. But that taskbar makes moving FF tabs around easier.

init 3 ; init 5 worked. Olaf -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

This reminds me that I made a similar observation when switching to GNOME 3.16 myself that I shared with this list. "The upstream Gnome designers still force title bars that consume too much of my screen height upon me. In the past I could hack the title_vertical_pad settings in /usr/share/themes/Adwaita/metacity-1/metacity-theme-3.xml. Now those XML-based schemes seem gone. How can I perform such tweaking going forward?" Any ideas? Gerald -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

google found me this workaround: ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css .header-bar.default-decoration { padding-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; } .header-bar.default-decoration .button.titlebutton { padding-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; } This does not seem to work for the settings window or file explorer. Maybe because they have this Search icon in the titlebar. Olaf -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

It is appearently enough to just install that package, then enable the tab extension in the tweak tool. Thanks! Olaf -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

I don't understand your requirement, but do you know about Alt+(key above tab, ` in my case)? Maybe that helps you already. Cheers, Tobi
