I haven't seen the 12.1 version but I am wondering if there is some misunderstanding about this Live CD and the ability to install Gnome 3 when using the Live CD. The Live CD I have come across with Gnome 3 does NOT have the option to install Gnome 3 when the Live CD is first booted and the menu appears - which is unlike all previous Live CDs where one had the option to Install the system from that first menu. Live CD with Gnome 3 do not have this option, and one has to know that only by going into Yast can one see the Live Installer option. Hi Basil, The gnome3.org openSUSE-based live CD's do have the option for installing when using the LiveCD (My laptop was installed this way) It's in the Desktop folder in the linux users home directory Of course, the 'Desktop' folder is somewhat redundant in GNOME 3, gnome-shell does not show icons on the desktop, so you have to go poking around the file system or using your valid YaST approach R

The point I was making is that why suddenly doesn't the Live CD have the option of installing Gnome 3 when the Live CD is booted? It has nothing to do with not having desktop icons or anything else. Why isn't there the option to install the Live CD from the menu when the CD is booted? Simple question: why has this option been removed? As explained in almost all blog posts about GNOME 3 Live image and in the wiki, you have to manually add "liveinstall" to boot command line to get live installer. But Live installer is still available from applications list in GNOME Shell. This issue is due to kiwi not supporting creating customized boot entry ( https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=667950 ) and is not present in GNOME3 Promo DVD (which was "hand-made"). -- Frederic Crozat <fcrozat@suse.com> SUSE -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

We really need a better solution for 12.1 than reading the manual ;) I can right now start the liven installer from the GNOME 12.1 LiveCD - but I need to know how to invoke it.

Agreed. 12.1 won't have the issue GNOME3 Live image have, since those iso will be created by coolo and not using a "kiwi only" process, so Live Install will be present in the boot menu.
I can right now start the liven installer from the GNOME 12.1 LiveCD - but I need to know how to invoke it.
One solution could be to start a "welcome" screen once GNOME is started (only in Live mode) explaining how to install the image (and maybe with a 1 click button to start install). -- Frederic Crozat <fcrozat@suse.com> SUSE -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

+1 I will not want to reboot a livecd to install it. IIRC we used to have a first run dialog with GNOME 2.x Sankar -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

What about putting the installer as the first favorite application? That kind of makes sense to me. Please forgive me, Frederick, but all you said is nothing more than goobly-dook to anyone - including me - who wants to install gnome 3 on their system. *WHAT* "blog posts" about "GNOME 3 Live image"? *What* 'posts' in the wiki? I have never heard of any of these. Who are you catering to - the ordinary guy in the street or the geek who has nothing better to do other than to read "blogs" and "wiki" entries - which nobody knows about except for the "blog-followers" and "propeller-heads" who follow this sort of stuff? :-( But in the end what you are trying to say that this "kiwi" - whatever the heck this is! - will be fixed as the result of the bugzilla report so that in the next day or so this problem will disappear and the next Live CD with Gnome 3 will not have this handicap, right? :-) BC -- The Annual General Meeting of Psychics has been cancelled due to unforseen circumstances. Anyway we could have a 'Install GNOME 3' available on the bootloader menu? For all I understood it's just adding 'liveinstall' to the kernel boot line... This would be an elegant way...
