[opensuse-gnome] Limited options on Nautilus after upgrading to 3.6.2
Hello, I am noticing limited options using Nautilus after I switched to Gnome 3.6.2 from former 3.4.2. If I right-click on a folder I just see 4 items: 1) new-folder 2) open in terminal 3) paste 4) propriety This is installed version of nautilus: marco@linux-turion64:~> zypper info nautilus Lettura dei dati del repository in corso... Lettura dei pacchetti installati in corso... Informazioni per pacchetto nautilus: Repository: openSUSE-Gnome-Stable-3.6 Nome: nautilus Versione: 3.6.3-3.11 Arch: x86_64 Fornitore: obs://build.opensuse.org/GNOME Is there something I can adjust/configure, in order to have a full-features Nautilus? Many thanks. These are the options when you click on the 'white space' inside the folder view, not when you click on a 'folder icon'. Which other options are you missing in this case? (Not really sure what else makes sense to do 'inside' the folder view, without having some file selected or so) But, for sure, Nautilus (Files) did get a major overhaul in this cycle. Hi Dominique, Thank you for your reply, yes you are right those are the options when I click on white-space on the right side of the Nautilus window. I think I am missing the top bar Nautilus menú as it was on 3.4.2 and also the options for example "create a new file" etcetera; sorry but right now I am on a Windows machine. It seems "my" Nautilus lacks several options in respect to former version. Ok.. then we talk about the same.. good :)

Part of the menu moved to the 'GMEnu' (the 'Application Menu' next to "Activities"). That gives likely a few of the options.. most others will be in the cog-wheel in the upper right corner of the nautilus windows. As for the 'New documents', that's a 'feature': Anything you put into ~/Templates will act as 'New document of specific style'. If you want to be able to just create a 'blank doc', just execute in a terminal touch ~/Templates/Empty\ Document This will add the specific menu back for you.

Nothing you will be missing in the long run :P Dominique -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

Very interesting hints Dominique, I will give it a try as soon I reach my Linux keyboard :) Yep, design of File has changed a lot and by the link you sent me before, I noticed that the 3.8 release will take additional changes. ...Dunno what's happened on code but after recent zypper updates I found Files with a lot of menu options available. Good job! After using Gnome Files for a while, I think there is one important thing still missing on usability of the app: it is the possibility to view the entire file-system/folders on the left window pane and at same time choose a specific folder on right pane in order to facilitate the drag/drop of items from one side to the other. I'm a GNOME-shell Fan, but I miss the dual-pane mode *ALOT*. That was ideal for drag-n-drop between different locations, especially two GVFS mounted network volumes. Two separate windows is not nearly as elegant. -- Adam Tauno Williams GPG D95ED383 Systems Administrator, Python Developer, LPI / NCLA -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

To get a "New Empty Document" option, open Gedit and save a blank file named just that into the Templates directory. (The Templates directory is rather neat, actually... I just wish there were some system-level templates, as not being able to create empty documents is an insane default, but that's more of an upstream issue.) Other than that, I can't think of any feature that's been removed from the context menu, though this might be poor memory.

Many thanks Michael, Another perhaps easier way to resolve one of the points.
