[opensuse-gnome] For those wondering about GNOME 3 status in openSUSE...
Hi, If you're wondering what's the status of GNOME 3 in openSUSE... Frédéric and Dominique have been working hard to prepare GNOME:STABLE:3.0 and make GNOME 3 available on 11.4. But this is not ready yet. Let me repeat it: this is not ready yet. There is no point in asking on irc, on forums, or on mailing lists when it will be ready (and really do not ask directly fcrozat or DimStar while they're working on it :-)) -- this is just slowing the efforts down. Instead, wait for the announcement or go check http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:GNOME_3.0 to see the current status. For people who still decide to use GNOME 3 now (yes, it's possible to get it working, but it requires some plumbing as the upgrade process can break your system): we don't accept bugs about it at the moment, especially "I can't login anymore" bugs. As for Factory, we'll merge things in GNOME:Factory very soon now. This means GNOME:Factory will likely be a bit broken for a few days. We'd love to have things already available, but unfortunately, it takes a bit more time than what we'd like :/ But we're nearly there and we mostly need to smooth out the upgrade process to make sure it doesn't break things for users. Thanks for your understanding. Cheers, Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

No rush - perfection takes time! Keep up the great work :)

Cool, thanks for the heads-up. I'd like to start merging the Zeitgeist stack into that project soon, now that we actually have something to show in gnome-shell. I'll poke you if I have trouble installing 3.0 on top of openSUSE 11.4 (currently I've been running Gnome 3.0 off of jhbuild). Other than that, should I just submitreq to that project when I have things ready? In GNOME:STABLE:3.0? I don't know; my gut feeling is that it should provide a stock GNOME 3 experience; the zeitgeist integration in gnome-shell could come on top of it, though. How do people about this? Same feeling, we should keep zeitgeist integration in a separate repository for now, until it is merged upstream (ie for 3.2). -- Frederic Crozat <fcrozat@novell.com> Novell -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

Not that I have a vote, but I'd agree. However, I think it would be cool to play with and would be willing to test it if someone wanted to make it available in some GNOME repo? GNOME:3.0:zeitgeist ? cheers, Stephen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

Yeah, good idea. Right now I have all the stuff in home:federico-mena:zeitgeist, but it is definitely better to move it into a "really public" project. I'll look into it - help appreciated, etc. :) Federico -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

Hi, I was going to give this a try, but its not available on 11.4. Federico, would you be willing to add 11.4? Thanks, Stephen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

Oops. Done :) The packages should build (or not) in a few minutes, hopefully. The specfiles are mostly clean; I think they only need some tweaking of the package groups and such to make rpmlint 100% happy. Thanks for this, Federico. Do you know if there's a specific version of gnome-activity-journal that runs with it? I'm having issues launching various versions of g-a-j and the Seif Lofty gitorious branch.
