[opensuse-gnome] Make GNOME3 screensaver desktop aware
The screen saver always wants either a mouse click+move or keyboard input to show the desktop again. Is there a way to get normal behaviour? At least in 11.4 it was possible to either just move the mouse or press CTRL or SHIFT or such keys to show the screen contents again. In control center I found no setting which would allow that again. I agree the current behavior is too much "touch" oriented. We should try to detect if a touch screen is there and if not, make the "shield" move as soon as a "modifier" key is pressed (currently, only a "non dead" key is moving the shield) or a single click is done (click + hold isn't great with a mouse / trackpad).. -- Frederic Crozat <fcrozat@suse.com> SUSE -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

Agree on the point that it's currently too pad-oriented. As to the question, current behavior is hard-coded, though an extension might suit this need. Personally I am not bothered by the current lifting settings, as current screen shield can display various messages (other than clock, it can show mail notifications, play tracks with controls, software/RSS udpates and others). A lot of times, I just wake up the screen to have a look at these messages. If I'm really in a hurry to get back to my work, I can hit the Return/Space or start typing passwords without delay. However options to enable old ways to lift shield is also nice. FYI, scroll up the mouse wheel also lift the "shield". -- Carl Xiong (cxiong@suse.com) SUSE Beijing, China -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

I never scroll up the "shield", just hit Enter. But there maybe problem when the system has lots work in the background, you have to wait for a relative long time to see the passwd screen. I also expect that if it can detect touch-screen automatically, rather than throw all the things into "touch" world. Best regard.

New in 13.1, you should be able to simply start typing your password and it will Just Work. Alternatively, any non-modifier key will lift the shield, so if you were trying to use Shift to raise it that was pretty much the only key that doesn't work. I don't know why modifier keys were excluded.

Unfortunately, it is not really obvious for people not used to it (start typing the password is nice for "expert"). Which is why I'm advocating for handling modifier and simple mouse click (and maybe some text should be added to the shield, but I'm not 100% convinced for this). -- Frederic Crozat <fcrozat@suse.com> SUSE -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

Also consider the "Blank Screen"+"No Password" case. In this setup just moving the mouse or pressing _any_ key has to show the desktop right away. Olaf -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

Agreed (I'm not 100% sure it is the case ATM). -- Frederic Crozat <fcrozat@suse.com> SUSE -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org
