[opensuse-gnome] Remembering the Milk...
A little but healthy discussion ensued today during our weekly GNOME team meeting about the continued use of RTM for managing our team tasks. While there were convincing arguments in favor of returning to the Wiki, there weren't much in favor of keeping RTM. However, we were mindful of the fact that Boyd wasn't present at the time and any consensus-building wouldn't be fair without first hearing Boyd's arguments in favor of RTM. We're sure he has valid points. To bring Boyd up to speed before he posts his statements and we all respond in kind (yes be kind!), here's a summary.of what was discussed. - Some people feel its not comfortable to use - Some feel separating it out from the wiki isn't a good idea and everything should stay local - Some newcomers have pointed out the problem of having to get properly "accountified" whenever joining new groups or jobs. - RTM offers benefits that the Wiki doesn't, such as email notifications, etc. - Tasky may effectively resolve some of the confusing unweildy uses of RTM - (My additional thought) If we all get on Tasky, since its a new product, we're simultaneously offering ourselves as good testers of Tasky, thus killing two birds with one stone. So... Thoughts? Discussions? Starting with Boyd please... Thanks, -- ---Bryen--- Let's rejoice a "There are no dumb questions" culture. Thanks for even considering my thoughts! So, when we started using RTM for task management, we all understood it was likely a temporary solution. If there's something better, no skin off my back if you choose to do that. Keep in mind that: - When we did manage the list in the wiki it was awkward. You have to deal with tables, moving old ones off the list, etc. - Reminders in RTM can happen automatically - You should be running Tasky! There's a 1click install for openSUSE 10.3 [1]! - When someone mentions an Action Item (AI) in a meeting, it's extremely simple to create a new task in Tasky and not so easy to do in a wiki I would suggest that if there are features/oddities in RTM's web interface, we give them feedback so they can fix it. Maw supposedly has better connections with its original author--perhaps he can work some magic there. Tasky does have a lot of good momentum and having all of your feedback (as users) would be most excellent in making it even better. But then again, I'm pretty biased. :) Cheers, Boyd http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/GNOME:/Community/openSUSE_10.3/tom... On Thu, Feb 28, 2008 at 2:34 PM, Bryen <suseROCKS@bryen.com> wrote:

installing as we speak tasky, so sorry for the obvious question, but you mean we would be using tasky with RTM as the backend? I have really nothing against RTM, but an argument that convinced me was the one about new opensuse-gnome community members having to create accounts in several places, so, is 'mail notifications' and 'ease of editing' the 2 arguments in favor of RTM? If so, and since people seem inclined to use Bugzilla or the wiki, where users in our gnome community should already have accounts to help us in bug days, meetings, etc, can we have a bugzilla backend in tasky? I have to agree with Rodrigo here. (I must admit I'm always reluctant to open yet another account on yet another website, so I'm clearly biased ;-)) Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

Let's just kind of clarify a bit here before we get into yet another discussion of keeping RTM or not. I think we've all kind of gotten into the agreement that going off to a different site isn't beneficial for us from a visibility or ease of new member purpose. The use of Tasky doesn't negate that issue. However, our discussion has evolved to a newer point which is that we DO want to help each other out in the various developments you all undertake. And we're at a perfect window to give Boyd some valuable feedback on Tasky functionality/usability before we switch off of RTM. I would hope that we can at least give him these few weeks to try Tasky (or whatever the new name will be) before we do go off of RTM, which at this point, I find no one is opposed to that idea. No need to bash the usefulness or lack thereof of RTM. It has already been discussed and there appears to be a majority consensus to eventually move off of RTM. Vincent just has to suffer for a few more weeks. :-) Bryen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

Sorry if this wasn't clear. I'm perfectly fine with living with the current situation as long as it's not mandatory to have a RTM account. Right now, I think it's still possible to read (but not edit) the tasks, so it's okay for me...
