I just tested this in a virtualbox install. Seems to do whats advertised, but I HAD to boot with gnome.fallback=0 in order to get a "working" gnome-shell. Was that intended? Should'nt it actually boot with a pref for trying gnome-shell? It might just be an issue with virtualbox: I've had recent issues where sometimes, fallback mode is used in virtualbox. Are you sure it's related to the gnome-session changes?
