[opensuse-gnome] Projects for Students

Hi Everyone, does openSUSE have a list of projects that are needed to be completed? Not bug fixes, but small projects? I am a lecturer at a Uni and have a project subject starting soon for IT and Computer Science students. The students work in a team of up to 3 students or individually, and have to complete a major piece of software for delivery in about September. They typically have about 10 hours per week per student to spend on their project. The student follow the Unified Process methodology. The first half of the year is essentially developing requirements and prototype. The second half of the year is completing the project. Many students develop projects of their own, but it is much better to have an actual client and a project that someone else wants. They have various skills - java, python, android, c++, gaming, ... I am looking for some stand-alone projects that students could attempt. If you have something that you think may be of interest to my students, I would be pleased to discuss them privately via email abenter@csu.edu.au Thanks, Allen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

Private email is probably not an appropriate way to discuss what projects to assign to students, since our project uses the mailing lists heavily to organize. If it isn't a problem for you, I'd like to keep this primarily in the mailing list. That being said, I know a few things that needed some love: The Inverse High Contrast theme for Gnome 3 needs maintainers. Sax3 has fallen into disrepair, this is a X configuration utility. There was a lot of talk about coding a greeter for our Gnome desktop, something that would introduce the user to concepts to use the Gnome SHell and our distro faster. There was some talk about an android app for our WebYaST technology. -- Roger A. While not specifically openSUSE perhaps you could find some 'assignments' via gnome-love? <https://live.gnome.org/GnomeLove> They have lower-end / smaller jobs that might be applicable to a small team, and there is generally some mentor-ish help available. There are certainly many GNOME applications that would love to have a small team to attack a plugin or some corner of an application. <https://live.gnome.org/GnomeLove/FindingTasks>
