[opensuse-gnome] Default gnome-panel layout for 12.1
Hi, In the fallback mode (and maybe the "GNOME 2 Look and Feel" session that Nelson wanted to work on), we currently ship the upstream default layout. This is largely different from what we used to ship before, with gnome-main-menu. I don't know if we want to change this for 12.1, and opinions are welcome. A few things that might be important in the discussion: + with the default layout, the fallback mode is (or tries to be) close to the gnome-shell look and feel. So changing the default layout might result in some inconsistency when people have to use the fallback mode + gnome-main-menu is not ported to GNOME 3 technologies yet. So unless someone does the job, we can't use it. I'd vote for the plain fallback mode. Keeping the old gnome-panel and gnome-main-menu is having a double, extra maintenance burden that we can avoid. (The fallback mode is not bad at all! I was using it for a few days on an old machine, and it was pretty comfortable, if spartan.) Yeah I think so too... that's something we can avoid, what we can improve there is most likely integration with compiz (or eventually metacity with composite) and other tiny things. I never thought really in changing much about the panel itself. One thing that looks odd is the integration of the panel itself with the GTK theme, it makes really no sense... but without willingness to hack code, I dont really see much we can change or allow customization beyond integration with other optional software like compiz and some tweaking on metacity et al. Can you elaborate? And you shouldn't need to change code for panel theming, btw. Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org
