[opensuse-gnome] RFC: xsane vs simple-scan
Hi, I recently packaged simple-scan, which is, hmm, a simple scan application :-) It feels much better as a GNOME app than xsane, and so I'm wondering if we should switch to it by default instead of xsane. Can people give it a try and evaluate it? Note that it doesn't ship with a gimp plugin, so that's one big difference with xsane. I was just thinking of packaging this yesterday, when I installed it from tarball.

Sadly it turns out my Canon scanner is totally unsupported in Linux, so I didn't get to do much testing. But at first glance it certainly seems much more GNOMEy and approachable than xsane (which I admit I have not used in years, since I've never had a compatible scanner).
Note that it doesn't ship with a gimp plugin, so that's one big difference with xsane.
Is there an upstream bug for this that you know of? I didn't see anything in a quick search. Sandy -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

No upstream bug for this, afaik. Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

That would be a big problem for me, as I always scan from inside gimp. And probably for others. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Yea, that is a deal-breaker for me. Scan-to-file, open-file, edit, save-file, is just awkward. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

For instance, when I save a scanned jpg I use gimp's feature to see the result of changing the compression/quality ratio. If you save directly you can get either too bad, visible, quality, or an exceedingly big file - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Let's not focus on this for now: please still test gnome-scan so we can know if the only issue is this gimp plugin, or if there are other things that could be blockers.
