[opensuse-gnome] Recently dropped / to-be-dropped packages
Hi there, I guess this is some useful information, so here's a summary of packages that were recently dropped and packages that we will possibly drop in the near future. I'd appreciate help/feedback for the second category :-) Recently dropped: - the telepathy farsight1 stack: everything moved to farsight2, so we didn't need those anymore. . libjingle . farsight . gstreamer-0_10-plugins-farsight . telepathy-stream-engine - swfdec: it is not maintained anymore, and doesn't support recent flash. . swfdec . swfdec-gnome . swfdec-mozilla - python-clutter: using clutter from python should be done with gobject introspection now, and not those manual bindings for old versions of clutter. . python-clutter . python-clutter-gst . python-clutter-gtk - various packages related to thin client management: those were never really maintained in openSUSE, and one of them was using hal. So we just dropped them. . dmlangsel . file-shrimp . thinclient-greeter . thinclient-settings . thinclient-users Things we will possibly drop in the near future: - packages depending on libpanel-applet-2 (GNOME 2.x applets), that will not get ported to GNOME 3. . deskbar-applet (dead, see https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=626223#c1) . libpanelappletmm (looks dead, and was only needed for gnote that won't use it anymore) And maybe: . contact-lookup-applet (depending on upstream) . drapes (upstream looks dead, so not going to be ported?) . gnome-main-menu (if not ported) . gnome-netstatus (depending on upstream) - maybe gnome-pilot-conduits: we need to check with upstream if it's still useful, but it needs gnome-pilot 2.x right now. A simple mail to upstream maintainer would do. - maybe pino: doesn't build, current branch is dead upstream and there's a preliminary new branch but it's in alpha, and doesn't look very active. - maybe nautilus-share: I'm not convinced it can easily be ported to nautilus 3.x, and it's really dead upstream as far as I can tell... Someone needs to investigate. I'll ask the maintainer. No idea what his plans are for 3.0. Federico -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

Chow Loong Jin (the maintainer of nautilus-share) says he'll port it to 3.0 this weekend and make a release. Maybe it was this weekend that just passed, as he replied on Friday. I'll catch up with him. Federico -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

Bleh, I should have checked my newer mail first. Chow Loong says he made two fixes which are in git.gnome.org now, and is asking for help in testing this. Nautilus-share should build fine now on Gnome 3, but he hasn't been able to test it due to Ubuntu issues. Can someone please grab nautilus-share from git.gnome.org and see if it works fine? I'll tell Chow Loong about the results so that he can make a release or keep fixing it :) Thanks! I've submitted the updated package to GNOME:Apps; at least, it builds fine with the patches from git. Cheers, Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org
Hi, Please read the mail carefully, else you won't be allowed to complain later on ;-) A while ago I wrote the following (and there's new stuff afterwards): Le jeudi 09 juin 2011, à 11:27 +0200, Vincent Untz a écrit :

Unless someone complains before the end of the week, we will drop those packages. It's a bit difficult to decide with pino, but there's no release of the new branch and unless someone steps up to actively look at what upstream is doing, it's simpler to drop it. On top of that, the following packages will be dropped too: - gnome-pilot: upstream doesn't have a lot of time to give a lot of love to the code and, well, I'm really unsure we have many users using this kind of old hardware. - gok: this is the old on-screen keyboard, working with the old accessibility stack. A new one is coming for gnome-shell, and caribou is recommended for fallback mode. Right now, there is absolutely nobody investing time to port it to GNOME 3, so unless someone steps up, there's nothing we can do to keep it. (I'm willing to help someone who wants to do the port, though) Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org
