[opensuse-gnome] Moving to Sonar as the default theme
Thanks for the feedback on the Sonar metatheme. There's a number of issues I will try to address: * Focused window indication. While the focused windows are shaded and unfocused are flat and low contrast, there seems to be a concern the 'spotlight' effect isn't strong enough. While it will lose a bit of the appeal, usability is more important, so I'll tweak it to have the highlight be more prominent with the default selection color. * Dark menu problematic. This issue is actually much more difficult to address. The main problem here is Firefox and its awesomebar, but there may be applications that will also have issues with it, see bug #503351. Some applications like FFox hardcode certain colors while taking others from the system theme. This is sadly even more visible in the FF3 builds, although there seems to be work done to address this [1][2]. Through numerous experiments I wasn't able to address this with the gtkrc itself and it seems like the only solution would be a custom/user chrome. But that really breaks things when switching themes so it would need to have some logic to only apply for Sonar :/. A workaround using stylish extension is another option[3]. In the light of this perhaps it would be better to drop the dark inverted menus and go for a slightly darker gray with black text that would work in apps that don't work with dark themes yet. Discuss. I'm also working towards a release of Fifth Leg, the openSUSE headline font. It would be quite a boost for the openSUSE brand if used as a default WM font. Feel free to try it out [4] and report any problems you may encounter. Hi I was trying the sonar theme out and it looks good in my opinion. There are some things that I think could be better. 1.Main-menu appearance too bland, looks better with gilouche atm. 2.Panel could be made shiny (looks too dull atm) 3.Looks better with icons-only view in toolbar (I am guessing this will not be the default view). 4.File-edit-view menubar looks too dark, could it be made somewhat lighter? 5.Consequently the window titlebar could also be a little lighter so that the demarcation between active and inactive windows is much clearer. 6.Volume icon in the task manager is almost invisible. Need a better colour for the ))) on the icon to go with the dark panel. 7.Menu-items are very clear in terms of readability as the contrast in the menu is really great with the current configuration. Will this be affected if the switch to a dark grey menu with black fonts is made? 8.Application-browser: The application names are readable alright, but the description appearing below them is almost invisible for applications within a selected group (selected group appears green, and the light grey descriptions are almost invisible). 9.On the nautilus toolbar, the rotating 'I-am-working' indicator is almost invisible. -- Atri -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org
