[opensuse-gnome] GNOME 3.6 entered GNOME:Factory
Hi GNOMEs! I know you are all eagerly awaiting it! * AND IT JUST HAPPENED * GNOME 3.6 (at least what has been released so far; official release date is tomorrow, so there can still some more packages appear) has been submitted and accepted into GNOME:Factory. * FACTORY USERS * GNOME:Factory, as you all know, is the staging project where all packages are being tested against each other and, once deemed working, be forwarded to openSUSE:Factory, to be included into our next release of openSUSE. GNOME:Factory is NOT compatible to 12.2 (due to dependencies). * BUT * Don't be afraid just yet: All this great work has also been submitted and accepted into a new repository GNOME:STABLE:3.6 (which, at this moment, is not published; we will be doing at least a few integration tests on 12.2 before crashing _your_ machine(s).) If all goes well and may the OBS be with us (giving us the build power we need), this should not take too long. Once all this is ready, we'll let you know here again! * BUT BUT * _YOU_ are really brave and don't mind crashing your machine... should this happen, you are a) capable of extracting log files (even if NO gui comes up b) formulate readable bug reports c) FIX the bug :) then there is even a repository for 12.2 published (actually, it is GNOME:STABLE:3.6 published in a different namespace). So if you feel adventerous and comply to at least 2 of the 3 points above (:)), then you are allowed to use the repository home:dimstar:broken on your machine and get up to GNOME 3.6 (don't do this just now: the repository is in a full rebuild due to the checkins!) * WHAT MORE * What? you want even MORE??? Well, formulate your needs, and we'll find a way to make you work on them :) After all, this is a community effort! We need YOU to make this all possible. Hope you're having a lot of fun! I went ahead and installed the GNOME36 report from your private repository on my openSUSE 12.2 laptop [I was brave and did this on my work-a-day laptop - I really want the improved notification scheme]. It works! But the downside is that once I start Firefox it is immediately unresponsive; all I can do is a forced-quit. That is pretty painful. Evolution 3.6.0 moved up from my previous configuration with no noticable issues. Nautilus also runs (although I think I'll miss two-paned mode). Banshee still runs and the audio codecs still work. Almost all of my extensions are now "OUTDATED", but that was expected. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

Adam, Thanks, that's great news! There are shortly some more 'fixes' being published in the repo, which addresses some odd crashes here and there (pango was updated to 1.32.1 for this reason). Once this is complete, I'll do some more quick tests this evening and will likely open the gates of G:S:3.6... so we can all have fun on the weekend! gdb says - Missing separate debuginfos, use: zypper install epiphany-debuginfo-3.6.0-168.2.x86_64
But nothing provides that package.
-debuginfo packages are currently not being built... an oversight when setting up the repository. As there is currently about 10 packages pending a build after cogl was updated to 1.12.0 (stable release), I'll wait for this to happen and be published before I'll change the project config to enable debuginfo as well, as this will trigger a full rebuild of all 216 packages in this repository.. Hoep you can understand the delay here. For a 'quicker' trace, I recommend you to do osc co GNOME:STABLE:3.6/epiphany cd GNOME:STABLE:3.6/epiphany mkdir bin osc build -d --release 168.3 -k bin sudo rpm -Fhv bin/*.rpm sudo rpm -ihb bin/epiphany-debuginfo*.rpm then you should at least be able to get started. Mike, This is on GNOME:Factory, right? The above missing symbols seem to indicate a rather serious issue. Do you have all packages from the G:F repo or are there a bunch not yet done? Especially look at mutter, if you have version 3.6.0 installed (and the respective libmutter* packages). This one is an inconsistency with the latest Mesa updates. I ran into that one as well yesterday. It will recover on it's own once the G:F repository manages to rebuild and republish. If you need to recover faster, then you have to: get the new binaries of Mesa (osc getbinaries) from Factory Build clutter, gnome-shell and gnome-session as a minimum against this new Mesa package (osc co GNOME:Factory <pkg>; then osc build -p <where you have the Mesa binaries) The rest of the log file should not be too worrying at the moment.
