Hey,
So it's that time of the year again, where we discuss shipping empathy as default IM client: https://features.opensuse.org/308281
As far as I can tell, the last unresolved issues we have with it are:
+ the handling of certificates, especially for groupwise
As some others pointed out, I will have to stick to pidgin until this is resolved. Last time I looked at the upstream bug, the suggestion was to copy the certificate to some directory. This did not work for me however.
+ proxies
Most of our user base shouldn't be affected by this, and as mentioned below, people who know they need a proxy can easily switch to pidgin.
As a reminder, empathy offers a better GNOME integration, as long as several cool features (share your desktop!), and has an intuitive UI.
Cool is good :-)
IMHO, if the certificate issue is really just for groupwise, we should ignore it.
As for proxies, I'll let Dominique comment there. My guess, though, is that most people don't have to use proxies, so are not affected. People using proxies will know that they have to use one, and can use pidgin instead.
What do you think?
+1 for making it default. I'm prepared to use both pidgin (for GWIM) and empathy (for the greater good) Cheers, Magnus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org
