Icon you proposed, is beautiful, but unreadable when smaller than 48x48. Eh... the icon I linked was the 22x22 version. I use it on my panel since 11.0 came out and people seem to recognize it just fine ("Oh this is the new SUSE?").
Michael it's a compilated icon. 22x22 and 16x16 icons should be the simplest. Icon, you proposed is a bit complicated. For this size circle around geeko's head is not needed etc.
You might need to request new icon, from jimmac for example. The icon I linked was done by Jimmac :)
I know and I appreciate his work, however SVG, which is possible to found in openSUSE, is by default in 48x48. Scaling down causes problems with readability and icon becomes blurry.
BTW, SLAB also should have some little branding inside ;) . Now I don't see the need for this...
There's no notice about openSUSE in SLAB. Maybe "About openSUSE" [1] launcher (and maybe "About GNOME" [2] launcher) in system area, since it contains what usual GNOME's "System" menu contains ;) ? [1] ggreeter? [2] gnome-about -- Jakub 'Livio' Rusinek http://liviopl.jogger.pl/
